Cardinalis cardinalis.  Both the male and female cardinal sing.  During courtship, the male feeds seeds to the female and marks his territory with song.  The diet is varied and consists of insects, including beetle, bugs, grasshoppers, caterpillars, ants, flies, etc.  Mostly eats vegetables of weeds, grass, grain, leaf buds, berries and fruit.  The nest is found in dense woods, shrubs, and from about three to ten feet above ground.
