Northern Flicker, Flight and Song

The Northern Flicker inhabits most wooded regions of North America. The Yellow-Shafted Flicker, a subspecies is identified by the bright yellow undersurface of its wings and found in the eastern part of North America. It subsists on mostly ants, some beetle larvae and berries in spring and autumn.
Vocalizations including drumming and tapping are rendered by both sexes. The Long Call and Peah can identify individual birds while others are for territorial defense, courtship, etc.
