Blue Jay's Call
32 x 48"
The Call of the Blue Jay is extensive and does not make for easy categorization. It has the ability to produce two different sounds at once through its syrinx, much gradation of sound, and it can mimic environmental sound. There is a general grouping of sounds into four groups by several authors: Jeer Calls, Pumphandle, Intrapair Contact, and Rattle Calls with a fifth group comprised of a catch-all. These groups are based upon frequency range, tonal quality, harmonics, and function.
The Blue Jay is monogamous and will defend its nest. The striking color of several blues with grays, whites and black bands make a beautiful combination.
