American Goldfinch

SOLD, 11 x 14 in., ink, acrylic on claybord

The bright yellow American Goldfinch was outside my kitchen window one day last spring here in the Ann Arbor area.  This painting was done on Claybord with ink and acrylic, airbrushed in the background, and scratching, repainting, etc. again on the foreground.  Seeing this birds flash of color in the wild is always a treat.  The plumage is muted during the winter while the female is less colorful year around.  The birds live in the temperate climate of the United States and North America.  They usually wait to nest until late in June or July.  They sing for a fairly long period of time and the song is heard through late spring and throughout breeding.
