Bald Eagle

9 x 12", ink on claybord

This Bald Eagle, injured and unable to fly is kept at the Leslie Science Center in the Ann Arbor area.  Visually, it, like all Bald Eagles, is a magnificent bird and known as the National Emblem of the United States since 1782.  It has been hunted, bounties paid out, overwhelmed by DDT and listed as endangered in 1966.  However, persecution and DDT levels have both decreased with the Bald Eagle being a successful conservation story.
