Great Egret

11 x 14"

The elegant, stately Great Egret and other wading birds were widely decimated during the early part of the 20th century by over hunting.  There are laws now protecting these birds.  They have had a wide ranging recovery and inhabits freshwater, estuarine, and wetlands.  It may feed individually or in groups.  This one was by itself in a small pond in the middle of summer here in Southeast Michigan.
