Ringed Kingfishers

18 x 24 in., ink and acrylic

Ringed Kingfisher, Coraciformes.  The neotropical Ringed Kingfisher is expanding its territory into Texas along riverside and lakeside tree perches.  Nesting occurs along high dirt banks so the nest site can be evacuated.  Their calls for defending their territory are loud and low-pitched.  These birds have a white collar ring with head, upper parts and wings a bluish gray while the male underparts are rusty brown with black and white bars.
